I am so excited to work with you! I know being in front of the camera can sometimes feel a little nerve-wracking (even I get nervous!), but my goal is to make this process as fun and easy as possible. Mini sessions are short and sweet, but we can capture so much magic in just 20 minutes. Here is everything you need to know to get the best results!
The Logistics
Timing is Everything!
Because mini sessions are booked back-to-back, being on time is essential.
* Arrive 10–15 minutes early. This gives you a buffer for traffic, parking, and last-minute outfit adjustments.
* The Clock Starts Promptly. If you are late, it cuts into your session time. We cannot extend past your scheduled slot because another family will be waiting right behind you.
* Plan Ahead. If you have small children, plan to arrive early enough to let them acclimate to the location before we start shooting.
Prepping the Kids (And Pets!)
For the Little Ones
* Full Bellies & Good Naps: A hungry or tired child is a tough subject! Try to schedule meals and naps so your kids are well-rested and fed right before you arrive.
* The "B" Word (Bribes!): Feel free to bring small, non-messy treats (like smarties or marshmallows) to reward good listeners. Avoid chocolate or colored candy that might stain teeth or faces.
* Talk it Up: Tell them you are going to meet a friend who wants to take their picture. If you are excited, they will be too!
Bringing a Furry Friend?
* Bring a Helper: If your dog is joining, bring a friend or family member to hold the leash when the pet isn't in the photo.
* Exercise First: A quick walk before the session helps get out the "zoomies" so they are calmer for portraits.
What to Wear: Styling Tips
Coordinate, Don’t Match
Gone are the days of everyone wearing white shirts and blue jeans! Instead of matching, think about fitting together.
* Choose a Palette: Pick 2–3 soft, muted colors (e.g., sage green, cream, and mustard) and mix them across the family.
* Avoid: Large logos, neon colors, and tiny pinstripe patterns (which can look strange on camera).
For the Ladies
* Movement is Magic: Long, flowy dresses or skirts look incredible on camera because they add movement.
* Comfort: If you will be chasing a toddler, make sure your outfit allows you to move freely without needing constant adjustment.
* Skip the Spray Tan: Even subtle spray tans can tend to look orange on camera. Your natural skin tone is beautiful!
For the Gents
* Fit Matters: Fitted pants or chinos look much sharper than loose cargo shorts or baggy jeans.
* Shoes: Please no athletic sneakers or flip-flops. A nice pair of boots or leather shoes creates a polished look.
During the Session
Relax & Trust Me
* "What do I do with my hands?" Don't worry! I will guide you through every pose. If it feels awkward, it probably looks great.
* Look at Your Family: While I will get the "everyone look here" shot, some of the best photos happen when you are looking at your spouse or tickling your kids.
* Let Kids be Kids: If they want to run or don't want to smile, let it happen. I will chase them! Stressing about their behavior usually makes them more upset, so just keep smiling and let me handle the chaos.
What Happens Next?
* Sneak Peeks: Keep an eye on your email (or social media) for a sneak peek within 24–48 hours.
* Final Gallery: Your fully edited gallery will be delivered within 2–3 weeks.
I can't wait to see you! If you have any questions before then, just let me know!
